She is an award-winning beauty consultant, receiving high honors and competitive opportunities in her industry. She is beautiful on the inside and out, but her specialty is definitely improving the outside :-)
1. Tell us about your business:
"Mary Kay is a multi-billion dollar company celebrating its 60th year in business. We are a family owned, debt-free company that offers women an opportunity to own their own independent businesses via a 'Direct Sales' model. I specialize in skin care, color application and sales. I also teach other women how to build their own Mary Kay businesses."
2. What type of services do you offer?
What is special about your brand?
"I offer both Skin Care and Color Consultations, as well as provide product recommendations based on your skin needs. I provide excellent customer service to my clients so they can feel confident in their skin."
3. How long did it take you to find success?
"I started in my business selling to friends and family, and soon realized I loved this business model! After 9 years in business, and after having my second baby, I chose to leave my corporate job and stay home to raise my children. At that time, I was able to increase my clientele, and put more focus on my business, and I’ve quadrupled my annual sales since then."
4. How might someone start in this industry?
"They would start by selecting either the eStart Startup option, or a Starter Kit, which gives them tools for processing payments and a website, as well as access to our back office. All of the training and support needed is with their consultant and the back office has amazing virtual training to help them in their business."
5.What inspired you to get into the work that you’re doing?
"I love helping people and making them smile. When I realized I could do that while having a flexible business, I realized this was where I wanted to be."
6. When you need support for decision-making in your career, who do you go to or what do you do?
"I have amazing mentors in my business that I can not only learn from, but also bounce ideas off of."
7. What motivates you to keep working hard?
"I love making my own money, but aside from that, I’m motivated by the change I see in others that I’ve helped. I love hearing 'I can’t believe how great my skin looks!' or “I’m so glad I know how to achieve that everyday makeup look!”
8. Do you have any particular goals you wish to achieve in 2023?
"I am currently in qualification to achieve a higher leadership position in Mary Kay, which would move me from top 5% of the company to top 2% of the company!"
9. What does your family think of what you do for work? Or maybe more accurately, what do they think you do for work?
"I am married to my husband of 15 years, and we have 2 beautiful children, Ellie, who’s 8, and Hayden, who’s 6. My husband is a fire captain at Sky Valley Fire and also owns a general construction business. My family is super supportive of my business, as it’s the way we pay for all the extras- Christmas, birthdays, vacations. They are all involved in my business, whether it’s putting an order together or helping me with product deliveries."
10. What advice would you give to someone who just started a business?
"It’s ok to do it scared. It’s also ok to start from the beginning not knowing anything. You have to start somewhere, but the biggest thing is to stay consistent. Find out what you’re most excited about and run with that. People will be drawn to your excitement."
